Stephan Ackermann (born Mayen, 1963) is a German bishop. He was appointed Bishop of Trier (or Treves) in the Moselle area of Germany, in 2009.〔(Curriculum vitae on catholic-hierarchy.org )〕 ==Biography== He had previously served with the title of Sozopolis in Haemimonto as auxiliary bishop in the same diocese from 2006.〔cf (Curriculum vitae on catholic-hierarchy.org )〕 Ackermann was educated at secondary school level in Andernach. He has studied at the Gregoriana in Rome, and at the Jesuit-run Sankt Georgen Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology in Frankfurt.〔(CV ) on the pages of Bistum Trier〕 In 2000 he received his doctoral degree at Fachbereich Dogmatik bei P. Medard Kehl SJ. The French newspaper ''La Croix'' has described Ackermann as a vigorous spokesman for the Catholic Church in Germany.〔La Croix, 31 March 2010.〕
